Looking to Help?

IMG_3022.JPGLast week, I highlighted a small group who is raising money for CNEWA through a bumper magnet and sticker campaign. Good news! Both products are in, and we’re working on getting an online ordering setup going. The image you see to the left is the image on the magnets and stickers. You can contact me via the email form on this blog if you’d like to order more than 5, and I’ll forward the information to my friend Harry, who’s got the stickers and magnets on hand today.

Please be patient with us as we work on this in our free time, between jobs and kids and other parts of life. This is a very small group of volunteers, but we so much want to help and keep this in the forefront of people’s minds.

One more thing about the Help Nasara website! We’ve started blogging about the people we are trying to help, and the first post is up here. In it, I talk about one group of Dominican sisters with a long history in Iraq. (You knew I’d write about Dominicans, didn’t you?)

The Dominican Sisters of Saint Catherine of Siena have been a presence in Iraq since the 13th Century, but they are now fleeing their homeland in the face of ISIS.The sisters are sleeping out of doors, on church pews, on the ground under trees…and they are trying to find a way to get out of the country. The Boston Pilot tells us:

The Dominican Sisters of St. Catherine of Siena have had a presence in Iraq since the 13th century, so this is not first time they have been in such dire straits, Sister Kelly noted.

“They have been itinerant before. There’s been so much war and oppression in that part of the world they have suffered over the years,” she said.
