MISSIO: Support the Universal Church

The Catholic Church, through the Pontifical Mission Societies, supports a global network of people working on the frontline of service for our most vulnerable communities. Every year, though, the need outstrips our ability to help. Through a new app called MISSIO, we are connecting that global network directly with supporters through the use of technology.

A few clicks and you can be connected directly with projects from around the world. You can offer financial support to some of the poorest of the poor, assisting with fundraising for projects that range from supporting retired missionaries in India to rebuilding a seminary to purchasing a vehicle for a home for the Deaf in Cameroon. There are opportunities to help provide scholarships to sisters in Italy, send children to high school in Sri Lanka, and finish building a maternity clinic in Uganda. Parishes who have twin parishes or sister parishes in other countries can use the app to gain support for projects that are underway.

Here’s a short video that shows some highlights of the app. (A more in-depth video will be at the end of this post.)

Catholics have long expressed their solidarity with the poor through their support of the Pontifical Mission Societies. Now, thanks to MISSIO, people with a heart for helping those less fortunate can expand their impact around the world through technology. MISSIO offers unfiltered access to those in greatest need – and to those who are making the greatest difference in their lives. And, every MISSIO donation goes directly to the project you choose to support.

Pope Francis launched the initial version of MISSIO in 2013 as a mobile application offering news about the hope-filled work being done around the world by the Catholic Church. The MISSIO platform now offers a direct connection to change-makers who work on the “frontlines” making a difference through direct, daily service to the poor and marginalized. I believe you’ll find MISSIO an easy-to-use way to help the poor.

To make things more interesting, there are two prize drawings that you can be a part of. First, if you register with MISSIO by February 1, you’ll be entered to win two tickets to Rome to meet the pope! (And I won’t even make you take me as your plus-one if you win. But you totally could if you wanted.) The drawing will be held on February 2, the Feast of the Presentation.

The second drawing is a bit less exciting, but has better odds. Follow the Rafflecopter instructions at the link below Leave a comment below to be entered to win some MISSIO swag: a mug and T-shirt. One winner will be chosen at random on February 2!

  1. ALMOST makes me wish I’d installed the FB messenger app so I can do the “chat with the Pope” thing. (But I won’t give FB the satisfaction.)
